I made Keep the Duck Alive because I kept wondering the same thing: would strangers on the internet actually keep something alive together, for no reason except that it's there and it needs them? Nobody owns a piece of the pond, no matter how much anyone gives · no equity, no stake, nothing to inherit. Every dollar just buys CARE: 48 more hours of life for the pond, and nothing more.
Every payment gets a listing on the
Leaderboard, ranked by how much was paid · it works the same whether it's $1 from a stranger or $1,000 with a name attached. Give as a Pond Keeper and your listing gets a bit more: your link, your favicon, a description pulled straight from your own site, all shown right next to your name. Same board, same rules, just a fuller listing.
The pond hatches, grows, and eventually dies · sometimes from neglect if nobody notices in time, sometimes from old age at its 30-day ceiling even when everyone helped. I record both endings honestly in the
Memorial. Nothing here is hidden or rigged: the rules are the same for everyone, and they're all written down in the
Rules.
Anyone can pick a reason for giving · a memorial, a celebration, a business listing, or just because. That's it. Someone has to keep it alive. Today, that's whoever's reading this.
